James R. Coughlin, Ph.D. has been an independent consultant for twelve years, following key toxicology, safety and regulatory positions in the food industry. He received both his M.S. in Food Science and Technology and his Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry from the University of California at Davis, where he also completed postdoctoral training in Environmental Toxicology. He has over 30 years of national and international experience in nutritional and environmental toxicology and food and chemical safety/regulatory affairs, as well as in risk assessment, management and communication. He has also been deeply engaged in assessing and managing California’s Proposition 65 scientific and regulatory compliance requirements since the law's passage in 1986.
